As the weather starts to warm up, it’s time for your students to get outdoors! Here are seven great outdoor activities that will help your students enjoy the spring season and allow them to have some fun in the fresh air.
#1 Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt
Nature scavenger hunts can be an excellent way for your students to explore their environment and appreciate nature in a new way. Provide them with a list of items to find and let them explore (in a safe way) to go looking for those things. Make sure they take pictures of all their finds as evidence when they come back!
#2: Start an Outdoor Garden
Get your kids involved in planting vegetables this spring! Let each student choose and plant their own vegetables so they can watch them grow over time and harvest the fruits of their labour. Have each student pick out a flower or vegetable seed, then help them plant it in a pot and watch as it grows over time. You can even take turns taking care of the plants during the school week and chart their progress together – an added science lesson! With this project, your students will learn firsthand about nature and how our environment works.
#3: Have a Picnic
What better way to enjoy the nice spring weather than having a picnic outside? Have everyone pack a lunch, head out to the park, and have a fun-filled afternoon outdoors!
#4: Fly Kites
Flying kites is always a great activity that gets kids excited about going outside again after wintertime. Head out on a windy day with some store-bought or homemade kites, and let your students take off into the sky with their creations!
#5: Nature Walk
Get your students out exploring nature with a nature walk. This activity is great for incorporating physical activity and learning about the different types of plants and animals they might encounter on their journey. It’s also an excellent opportunity to teach them about safety outdoors and how to respect nature by leaving no trace. Make it a game by having them identify different kinds of plants, flowers, birds and more!
#6: Making bird feeders
Provide each student with supplies such as pinecones, string, and birdseed so they can make a homemade bird feeder that they can hang up outside. This is a great way to observe wildlife while also teaching kids about conservation.
These outdoor activities are perfect for getting your students out in nature and exploring the world around them. Spring is the perfect time to get outside and start learning about nature! So grab some friends and head outdoors for some fun-filled spring adventures!
